AFX News: SingTel president and chief executive officer Lee Hsien yang said the company is hoping to maintain earnings in the current financial year amid increasing competition. Demand and business opportunities for wholesale voice and data services will increase but there will be intense price competition between local and global players, he added. In particular, demand for leased circuits and internet bandwidth will be underpinned by growth in internet usage and traffic in the region, he said. SingTel, in the same statement, said it is preparing to list units National Computer Systems, Sesame.com and Lycos Asia. "Depending on market conditions, SingTel expects to list all three companies by the end of the current financial year. This will unlock shareholder value and provide further opportunities for growth." A SingTel spokesperson said the new listing schedule for the three companies is brought forward by one year from their original schedule. |

Singtel delays planned listing of National Computer, Sesami.com, Lycos Asia
SINGAPORE (AFX-ASIA) - Singapore Telecommunications Ltd said it is no longer planning to go ahead with the planned listing of units National Computer Systems, Sesami.com and Lycos Asia, in the year to March due to the volatility in the financial market. "It is unlikely that we will list National Computer Systems, Sesami.com or Lycos Asia in this financial year as planned due to the (financial) market's volatility. But we will consider to list these subsidiaries when market conditions are more stable," said chairman of SingTel Koh Boon Hwee. |
