Will Pheim Asset Management apply for this IPO? Their track record is very impressive leh!

From yesterday's BT........

Tan Chong Koay, chief executive of the Pheim Asset Management Group, said Micro-Mechanics was poised to benefit from any upturn in the semiconductor industry because of its focus on products that constantly need replacement and because the company has no bank loans.

This one quite interesting.

From the v little I understand abt this company, they supply small items pdts to semicon industry and is usually unaffected by the downturn of this industry because their margin are not squeezed as badly because the cost of their pdts constitute a very low % of the semicon company's cost. Secondly, their pdts are sort of those disposable type so unless the semicon players closes down, Micromech will always have a constant stream of business.

This is looking like a good buy in the semi con industry with sound fundamentals. Overall industry is choppy which is really the only bad thing. Do check out their prospectus for their basic core businesses and... I figured out it aint that bad. Too bad they didnt put up their company on Shareinvestor like Ecowater or Radiance.

Ehh.... am swallowing my own words now. Just read the negative research report from Netresearch which makes lots of sense. Lots of targeted statements abt their poor cash on hand and cashflow. This sentence in the long report make me sianzzzzzzzzz liao.

cash and equivalents were S$0.7m which still seems very low (this was exacerbated by a dividend of S$1.6m paid to then-shareholders in February 2003).

This business is also high- tech but without any hype likes Bluetooth, Broadband, Dotcom etc..hence have been ignored by most. Those who study Electrical or mechanical engineering will know the potential.
However, the financial data /record for this company does not appear good with erratic earning and margins.
Fully valued at current price.

Ya, precisely it is no good, so all the bua ya WORKED together in the afternoon to push its price all the way up to 42 cts. I think tomorrow morning they will continue to push the price to 45cts to attract more retailers in and distribute to all the unawared investors - who can't be bothered with FA, buy when the price cheong.

The same was done to Sinomem last Fri.

May be the same will repeat for Radiance.

Anyway, no vest interest. Just an observation.

Possible dark horse? Looking at the nature of the business – country exposure and cosmopolitan/experienced management as well as the fact that the chart is starting to look good (take a look – starting to break out). No vested interest as yet - but watching from a distance. Only 107.5 million shares issued with small quantity for public (3.5 M) and 18+ M placed out in May 2003. Small float – yet potential for a smart operator to ‘corner’ – volume low today with significant potential – any views on this one?

This one is my tip for next week – guy in charge is Chris Borch (USA) – who has a superb track record for management – any expected upswing in the semiconductor industry, which accounts for most of the company's sales should benefit this counter – and I anticipate that with ML upgrading the sector this one will fly too as I anticipate will ST Assembly amongst others.

The company deals mainly with products that always require replacement and perhaps one important facet is that Micro- Mechanics has NO BANK LOANS.

Customers include OEM's such as Alphasem, ASM, ESEC and Kulicke & Soffa; sub-contract semiconductor manufacturers such as Amkor Anam, ASAT and Carsem Semiconductor; and such well-established brands like Delco Electronics, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, and International Rectifier.

Upon launch it is interesting that the 3 institutional investors - The Asia Life Assurance Society, UOB Asset Management and Pheim Asset Management – grabbed half of Micro-Mechanics' total 22 million IPO shares – and as I wrote earlier – “ Looking at the nature of the business – country exposure and cosmopolitan/experienced management as well as the fact that the chart is starting to look good (take a look – starting to break out). Telford,
Can you obtain the following information first?

1. forward BBR for Q4 FY03, Q1 and Q2 FY04 from SIA
2. forward CAPEX of Intel, AMD, TSMC and UMC
3. forward CAPEX of Photronics, Applied Material and Merck

We will discuss more meaningful with such information.
