Maybe they should be offering shareholders perks such as discount on eating at their restaurants. This would definitely help the share price. Investors would be more keen to support their eating habits. |

Goler, by the same reasoning, wouldn't the rest of the listed retail store like CK Tang etc had to offer some shareholder's perks?? Just wondering, does any listed companies gave such perks?? |

Dear Lonewolf, In the UK for example, many companies give investors perks. e.g. Associated British Foods - At AGM, shareholders who turn up in person get food hampers. Debenhams - Shareholders get extra discount at the retail shops. One property developer even gives 500 pounds discount on properties. There is a book published in the UK on Shareholders Perks. We should lobby for Thai Village to do something different from the rest of the Singapore market. |

This stock is worth buying because the amount of share issue is very small (23Million) and it is only 20 cents per share. This means that a small syndicate can easily cornered the share. You only have to fork out $4.6 million to take the whole issue.today's vol. is 13 million and the buying has been slow and steady. Watch the trend of the past new issues, they only start to move one week after the Ipo. eg. Parkway Lab. and airocean. If the sentiment continue to improve I think it is due for a big move next week. |

TA on ThaiVillage, After languishing and bottoming in May, Thai village charts are again on the upswing. As mentioned yesterday, I loaded up 80 lots @0.19 and the charts are showing a upswing to 0.21. This counter is ignored by a lot of people because it seem so 'small'. The MACD chart is showing a crossover, signalling a possible upswing. The stocahstic chart has rise and broke throught the 30% level approaching 40%. Typically, when it crosses 50% line, there will be a surge in price. RSI is pointing up. Upside potential is 0.2 (short term 1 week) and then 0.22, 0.25 giving a upside target of 5.26%, 15.8% and 31.6%. The downside potential is 0.18 which is 5.26%. Given the fundamental high earning, reduction in cost of goods (just got new processing permit) and that there is a lot of sharks left in the ocean B-) and that the cost of each lot is cheap...well. Have vested interest and still loading up. Timestamp 22/6/00 price @0.195 up 2.63% |

And now I have a biz that own 5 restaurants, 3 in Singapore and 2 in PRC. At the same time, I save 15 to 30% of my cost of goods because I have processing plants both in Singapore and PRC. The one in PRC have excess capacity that I can supply to other restaurants which one day I will buy over. In the mean time, the biz will continue to expand it's restaurant chain and open more each year. With the price @0.19 and low side at 0.18, recommend buy and hold 2 years ++ Have vested interest |

Opps, my mistake. I visited www.thaivillage.com.sg and found out that I now own a biz that have 5 restaurant in Singapore, 1 in Indoensia and 2 in PRC. Plus 2 processing plants in PRC. I'll double check the fundamentals again when I receive the company report from them. Looking at Philips Securities IPO research again, the NTA have been increasing at about 2x per year. 2.84, 4.74 and 5.40 for 97,98,99. With new restaurant up, I guess the cashhoard will go up. Silverspoon, You must have sold it to the directors who unloaded at 0.27 and 0.25 around April/May period B-) But have no fear. Nobody wants this counter and that's where you will earn the most next few years. |

At $.19 a share, mkt cap $27.7m, Thai Village does not come cheap. 5 restaurants & 2 processing plants can be easily set up for less than half the mkt price. The rest is good-will. PE may looks cheap provided the mtg can keep the profit in coming years. But restaurant & food business is high competitive, food preference changes fast, many uncertainities like key staff (chefs come and go), low cost of set-up (Any Ah Beng can open one if he has the cooking skills). Many restaurants once had long waiting queque are now empty. Where is Mayflower & Chao Pha-ya? Cheers |

Mudman..can you explain why then, if a counter is not very popular or well-known, they are often chosen for long term investments??? |
(Post 24 of 877) 06/26/2000.00:31:00 |
| Author : |
Well, I am reading Peter Lynch "One up on wall street" and the explaination is as follows:. Business can be divided into 6 categories such as 1) Slow growers 2) Stalwarts (Thai Village) 3) Fast growers 4) cyclicals 5) asset plays 6) turnarounds Many analyst wil recommend buys on the hottest stock and prices would go up and out of reality and then the price crash. Unless you are a trader who is very good at catching the top and selling there, chances are that people who buys get kill (eg STATS which I bought at S$10+ and cut lost at $9.40 before it crashed to now) or Venture, or etc. So, for long term investors, they have to seek out stable and safe investment that are boring, but is a cash generator. The more boring the company, the least the other broker house will anlayse it and that gives long term investor a lot of time to accumulate as much as possible. By the time the others started to recommend it, the price would have spiked. For Thai Village, how many weddings/dinners have I gone to and do they serve sharkfins? Normally I eat enought sharkfins B-) I looked at Thai Village profit margins and it is 7.32, 15.32, 13.26, 14.33, 16.63 from 95, 96, 97 ,98 ,99 respectively. Total assets, shardholders funds, after tax profits have been increasing while liability is decreasing. With a ROE of 40%, if I invest @0.19 now, in 5 years time, I can at least see 1.02 if the margin remains the same. That's a 437% potential increase. Adding to that, since the biz don't pay dividends and the management would most probably increase the number of restaurants and processing plants, I have a potential cash generating biz here B-) That's the simple FA I have done on the biz, and I'll research more when the company sent me more stuff. But with downside at 0.18, I'll buy and hold as many as I can afford B-) |

Total assets is now 10.895 million vs 3.85m (ie biz have 7.045 millions if it cash in today). and I guess sharkfin, other food, restaurants, processing plants, goodwill (Thai Village name), cooks and etc are easily convertable to equivlant cash. If tough time comes which I think Singapore/China is not, then at least I can cash out fast too without incuring hugh losses. |

Web, I didn't bother to replied your earlier query because my vested interest was in my message about 9 messages back from your posting. I initiated the interest because I SAW the great opportunity here and I scooped low. Spoon, Don't know (if I know I would catch all the sharks in the ocean and make sharkfin prices go up B-) But my charts show that the first base was at 0.18, then previously at 0.19 and next it will be 0.22. ThaiVillage has a very good business system going here and they are in the early stage of their growth. Smart management don't pay dividends but reinvest in business to earn more for their investor. When ThaiVillage becomes like Macdonals in PRC, it will be too late to buy the shares then B-) But mind everyone, I am talking about 5 years investment plan at least. Of course once in a while, I will be selling to take profits when I see the TA B-) |

Sharks have been known to attack human beings in some parts of the world. When they attack us, they dun even think two hoots abt our existance! Besides, its true, they did eat us for food, we also eat sharks for food what?! We must pay money to eat their fins but the sharks eat us for free ok! And I think human-beings are more of a delicacy to sharks than they are to us! So I say.... why not we cultivate sharks for food??? I mean rear them like poultry and stuff like that?~! ThaiVillage!!! ARE YOU LISTENING?! aha! Tonite we shall go ThaiVillage at Seaview Hotel.... hehehe |

Sharks do not eat human beings for food. The movies protray sharks as man-eating monster which is misleading. See Discovery and National Geographic for more information. Meantime, go to the zoo to learn more about sharks (now on display). People hunt down sharks for their fins by first attacking their offsprings and use them to attack the mother shark. If it is possible, do not eat shark's fin. |

In history, sharks have been known to attack man... though man is not their staple diet... once in a while a human happens to agitate a hngry shark. Normally they just pass us by and leave us alone. But once they have attacked a human being and consumed him, they will then develop an appetite for him... like the others that were caught and found with human bones in their bellies... even a head was found in one of them.... |

Bullberryhill, thanks for speaking up for our animal friends. However we should stop eating shark's fin not because sharks are endangered species, but because the sharks and all life forms want to live and don't want to suffer or in pain. How can the sharks surf the waves and sail the seven seas if their fins are chopped off and thrown back into the sea by fishermen? Do we like it if our arms are chopped off and asked to go back to living. How can we surf the net without arms? So refraining from eating shark's fin is a start. |

TA - ThaiVillage charts look mildly bearish. Notice the two peaks forming the double top formation at 0.22? That's the top resistance which caused a lot of people to start contra selling the shares downward. I see the next support level at 0.19 where I will be collecting my sharkfins again. There was a recommendation from CNA about Ho Bee and ThaiVillage. Yes, in the medium to long term, this counter will be giving you a great big bowl of sharkfins (or cash). But in the short term, collect lower. No vested interest |

Dear all shark lovers. We could all buy up 51% of ThaiVillage and then stop them from serving shark fins in the restaurant. Or we could stop biz from making consumer products as they will break down, be burried in dumps and cannot be recycle for years to come. Or we could stop coca cola as they deplete aluminium and create more plastic bottles than Pesi. I always have a dream that when I can a trillionaire, I would solve many of earth's problem. Like buying up the whole amazon forrest and relocate refugees and hire them as rangers there. Move all the animals there and save endangered species. The only hope I see is that earth people finally realise their folly. Gang up and develop space technolgy so that we can exploit other planets (without inhabitants of course). Hence earth will remain stable as we colonise the world. But that will only happen if we can develop technology to do so and in the mean time, we still have to go to chinese wedding dinners and D&D where shark fins is still being serve. Sharks and cockroaches are the meanest, toughest species on this planet and if WWIII comes out and everyone else is gone, be sure that these two creatures will be left on the soil to chew on our bones. |

Imitation shark fin should be served. It tastes as good because the taste come from the ingredients used in the soup. Shark fin is tasteless. But restaurants will not down sell their dish unless the public and govt cry out loud. So let order fish maw soup which is much more tasty and cheaper. Long live the SHARKS! Cheers. |

We have the right to eat shark's fins... the way those pple kill sharks by slicing off the fins and leaving them to rot in the sea is very cruel... that fact is agreed upon.... we could stop such wastage though, the sharks can be used for other purposes like their oils and meat... their teeth for decoration purposes and medicinal puposes as well.... hey .... y nobody protest against chicken-slaughtering... Aiyah...actually I feel that its very cruel lah... those sharks must be suffering... well since they are endangered...maybe they could come up with a shark farm.... but kill them in a way that prevents wastage... and humanely lah!!! |

At least sharks are not being bred like chickens and ducks (remember MATRIX the show?), or prawns or lamb or cow or ...... I think polution will kill off the shark population faster than catching them and making them into soup ingredients. How about stopping Singapore governement from dumping those waste via a high tech tube right out to the deep open sea (where the sharks are). To stop polution or waste, humans have to stop eating, which stop packaging, cooking, untensils, tables, raw materials, logistic, transport, oil, refinery, machinery etc etc up the chain. ONE sure way of stop people from eating sharkfins. Make them lose their fortunes so that they have no more money to go to the restaurants. |

Mudman, are you feeling concerned about all these talks on sharkfin-eating?? if mad-cow, napah virus, bird flu etc wudnt stop ppl from eating the common fowl and animals, sharkfin will still find its way on the wedding dinner, businessman's treats for a long time. some day the shark breeding farm will become reality if more concern raised, but meanwhile, concern on sharkfin only give us good reason, to believe why it's becoming an even higher margin delicacy for selected restaurant.... till Singapore government stops it. I am not sure there is a pipe out there though, but the next wedding dinner we attend, I bet sharkfin will still be served, fortunately or not. just my 2 cents comment from investment point of view |
