Hi Friends,
WesTech plans to raise S$5 Million through an IPO offering 18M shares on SESDAQ. Only 18 Million new shares are issued and this comprises of 1.8 Million Offer shares and 16.2 Million placement shares. Understand that offer opens on May 14 and closes a week later with trading to start on May 23. With such a small float - another Dayen or Qian Hu in the making? Will be interesting to watch the opening action again. Happy Trading. |

Folks, I hope you find the video link above useful. The chairman of the company has directed his talk to all the users of SI.
Yes, SI is slowly transforming itself into a financial internet media and technology company. We hope to provide you with as much video content as possible. If there are companies that you wish us to cover, let us know. Even better, let the management of these companies know that there is another media that they can use. |

WesTech Electronics Limited offers 18 million shares at 35 cents each on Sesdaq
* Net proceeds of S$5.0 million will fund the Group’s expansion in North Asia SINGAPORE – 14 MAY 2002 – Home-grown WesTech Electronics Limited("WesTech") today launched its initial public offering (the "Offer") of 18 million shares at 35 Singapore cents each in conjunction with its Sesdaq listing on the Singapore Exchange. Comprising 18 million new shares, the Offer represents 16% of the Company’s enlarged share capital of 112.46 million shares. Of the 18 million shares on offer, 1.8 million shares will be available for public subscription while 16.2 million shares, of which 3.8 million shares are reserved for management and employees, will be privately placed. The historical price earnings ratio based on the net earnings per share for FY2001 of 4.33 cents is 8.1 times. Based on the post-invitation share capital and the issue price, WesTech will have a market capitalisation of approximately S$39.4 million. The Invitation, which opens on 14 May 2002, will close at noon on 21 May 2002. Trading of WesTech’s shares, in board lots of 1,000 shares, is expected to commence on 23 May 2002. UOB Asia Limited is the manager for this Offer. The underwriter and lead placement agent is United Overseas Bank Limited and UOB Kay Hian Private Limited is the co-placement agent. Turnover has grown from S$60.8 million in FY 1999 to S$123.7 million in FY 2001. A three-time Enterprise 50 Award winner in 1998, 2000 and 2001, WesTech has 12 offices located in Singapore, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Hong Kong, Thailand and Taiwan. Representing 38 reputable principals and manufacturers in the distribution and sales of electronics components as well as systems and equipment, WesTech has carved a niche for itself in the Asia Pacific region with a stronghold in Southeast Asia. Going forward, WesTech has set its sights for further expansion in North Asia. Jeffrey Tan, Chairman and CEO of WesTech, recognises North Asia as the next hotbed for the electronics industry, "The macro-environment and the outsourcing trend still favours Asia as manufacturers continue to shift their production bases here. In addition, China’s accession into the World Trade Organisation is expected to fuel an influx of foreign direct investments, which in turn will require investments in scientific and industrial products." Tan commented, "WesTech is fully aware of the dynamic Asian landscape and has invested resources to strategically sharpen our competitive edge in the key markets. We have built a suite of value-added services, including product design and development and OEM arrangements, to complement our distribution prowess. Backed by solid long-standing relationships with our principals and customers as well as requisite management expertise, we are confident our efforts in North Asia will succeed." The net proceeds of S$5.0 million from this Offer will be mainly used to expand the Group’s business operations in North Asia. Approximately $2.5 million of the net proceeds have been earmarked to support this initiative while $0.5 million will be used to partially repay IBM Singapore for the development of the Group’s Management Information System (MIS). The balance of the proceeds will be used as working capital. WESTECH’S GROWTH ROADMAP The global electronics industry is expected to pick up this year after a lacklustre 2001. WesTech plans to ride on the recovery by capitalising on its existing strengths and further developing its competencies in the following ways: * Enhancing its Supply Chain Management To reinforce Singapore and Hong Kong as the Group’s logistic hubs for the South and North Asian markets respectively, WesTech will move swiftly to integrate its MIS system to provide an effective group-wide information-sharing infrastructure. This will enable WesTech to offer just-in-time supply chain solutions that enhance its customers’ cost competitiveness. * Strengthening its Regional Network WesTech has set out plans to expand its regional network by leveraging on strategic collaborations with major principals. S$2.0 million of the IPO proceeds will be used to develop and strengthen the Group’s North Asian operations including establishing a logistics hub in Hong Kong, setting up new sales offices in Shanghai and South Korea and strengthening its existing sales team. * Expanding the Breadth and Depth of Product Portfolio WesTech will continue to source for new and complementary product lines to give its customers further breadth and depth in electronic solutions and at the same time, enhance the Group’s ability to provide design-in support for its customers. * Increasing the Systems and Equipment Business Tapping on the market potential for comprehensive solutions and service support for its customers and principals, WesTech will increase its focus on the Systems and Equipment business in North Asia. * Value-adding with Product Design and Development WesTech aims to leverage on its market experience and engineering capabilities to strengthen its position as a value-added supplier. Its competent product development team is trained to provide full turnkey solutions for product continuity and growth. * Extending OEM Arrangements to Other Partners The Group has already started OEM sub-assembly of optical devices for video and audio applications and has shipped the first batch of finished products in September 2001. WesTech will seek to extend the OEM collaboration to other partners in the region. * Seeking Strategic Acquisitions and Alliances WesTech will continually seek opportunities to acquire or form strategic alliances with companies that create greater synergies with its existing businesses. # # # |

Fundamentals dont seem to matter now in new IPOs. First it was Raffles Las, a small cap Design school to tripe in price. Then it was Dayen. Will this be next?
It has a small float of only 18 mil shares raising only $5mil. With most of it placed out and a neglible amount open for public subscription, it looks to be easily oversubscribed. Given the hot sentiment over recent IPOs, this looks like another easy target for syndicates to play up. Possibility of cornering is relatively easier with small float. It will be interesting to watch. |

This company is crappy. The CEO speaks like he just went thro a crash course in English, they're only a distributor, no value addded industry, just a middle man, no product of its own and the manufacturer of the products they support pledge no loyalty, their services and knowledge of the instruments they support are bad as the way their CEO uses the English language, so how to grow? Remember they're selling high tech equipment not chai peng and char kway teow!! It has totally no potential ........but the stock price will go a long way, easily cornered, and ah soh and ah pek's will be easy victims after seeing the success of Dayen |

Folks, we gave the chairman a call to ask him whether he can share his views to our community and he kindly agreed to do so. As we wanted the video out to everyone as early as possible, we asked him whether we could go over within an hour to tape him.
We are very thankful to the chairman for his impromptu appearance in front of our video camera. Hence folks, if he appeared not very prepared, it is our fault for that. |

Perfect example of why sometimes we should bite our tongue.
True story. Before Oldman wrote the above post, Mojojojo did listen to the recording. Mojojojo's curiosity was especially piqued by all the negative comments about the broadcast. After hearing the broadcast, Mojojojo thought to himself... "That must be one of the worst presentations I have ever heard." And Mojojojo was thinking about agreeing with the comments to date... but Mojojojo held his tongue. This was why: 1. Chairman/CEO sounded nervous. Mojojojo remembered when he first made his first major presentation in front of a large audience (it was a debate). He was nervous. Even today, he's still nervous in front of massive audiences. It could be client presentations or paid seminars or an AGM, but the effect can be overwhelming especially if you are out of practice and if a lot of pressure is building up on you. It's easy to be the observer looking in, and telling the speechmaker what he/she should do (e.g. cast your eyes over the audience, square your shoulders, don't over-gesticulate, memorable messages, etc.) but when you are actually doing it, it is a totally different ball game. Does he have a right to be nervous? He was 28 when he first formed this company, and has built it up over time to eventually position it for a listing. I don't know if it's a good company (and I do have my reservations after looking through the tangled web of inter-relationships in the annual report) but I know this is something close to his heart, and represents the culmination of a lot of work. That is enough to unsettle even the bravest of hearts. Let's give him a little leeway on that. 2. Chairman/CEO's English supposedly "not up to the mark". It's easy for us to criticize other people when they don't speak like us or act like us. We close our eyes, ears... and sometimes our heart. Even to those who are innately good. Some say that the articulateness of a person is an indicator. I think it's prejudice. Mojojojo readily admits he's not perfect. The truth is: Mojojojo can't speak Mandarin very well. In fact, he butchers the language. Sometimes, when Mojojojo is with his European friends, they praise him on his mastery of English... but they don't know Mojojojo is extremely shy about his own weak understanding of Mandarin. There's this really nice China national Mojojojo knows - intelligent... but Mojojojo finds it difficult to communicate with him though. This just means Mojojojo needs to try that little bit harder - Mojojojo believes friendship should not be hampered by stubbornness or prejudice. There is one technical complaint/suggestion I have though - which has nothing to do with the Chairman/CEO's speech. The volume seems quite soft. I would like to suggest that in future, a volunteer or SI staff could help clean up or enhance the sound. I think it's important, because it's easy for people to form a negative image if they think the guy isn't speaking clearly or mumbling his way through. After reading Oldman's posting, Mojojojo realized he did the right thing (in his humble opinion) in holding back the first comments that came to his churchmouse head. Give him a chance, read the IPO prospectus. And form your own judgement. P.S. Agree with the poster who referred earlier to its unenviable position as a distributor. |

You might have seen Mojojojo in these famous shows: 1. Survivor: Out of Africa. If you look closely at episode 2, that was Mojojojo hanging out of the tree 15 minutes into the show. 2. Powerpuff Girls: Regular appearance. 3. Austin Powers: Mojojojo resides in his pants. It's what Fat B*stard stole from Austin Powers. |

I remember a very important man in Singapore who spoke English in a way that others would have thought he only had primary school education. He was one of the most trusted man of the most important and most powerful man in Singapore. Although his English was quarter-pass-six, he was nonetheless a brilliant man. He was confident, respected and went about giving his speech in a dignified manner. Unfortunately, through an error of judgement on his part, and a very big error at that, he did something that the most powerful man in Singapore found unforgivable. He committed suicide or so they claimed. I tried very hard to recall his name but it just did not come back. However, I can remember his face, expression and his voice and manner of speech delivery very vividly. |

Alchemist, Lately, the Timbuktu government has attempted to close the digital divide between our nation and the rest of the world. Of course, to help fund this exercise, we have been listing companies on the SGX. There is no problem at all since the SGX accepts virtually any type of company. That's why it's very important for us to know about SGX! Even though Timbuktu is officially a backward country, we are very fortunate to be part of Singapore government's foreign development assistance program Elephant meat! Heavens NO! Elephants are sacred creatures in Timbuktu! On the contrary, and mojojojo wants to be modest here, the elephant trunks actually symbolizes, ahem!, the nature of Mojojojo's "private" organs. *blush!blush!*. This is one reason why many foreign women come from far and wide to Timbuktu. So now you know the true secret behind mojojojo's nick |

Mojojojo, my initial assessment shows that the sound quality is perfect with the broadband version but is not that clear with the dialup version. Problem is that I doubt we can do much to this as the control is actually with the Microsoft tools. If we increase the quality, the dialup folks may find it too slow to download the video.
In a few weeks time, we will be installing a streaming server and when this happens, I think a higher quality sound and video can be achieved even with a dialup line. If what I say sounds more French than African, please forgive me ! In English, it simply says that we will look into it. |

Tuans attachment is derived from their long association with the Tuans of Singapore and Malasia. The younger males are also called Timbucks, while the younger females are popularly called Timchicks. Children are known as Timbukkids For more information on Business contacts, entertainment, political setup and other essential data, refer to the Encylopedia on National Opportunities Anywhere published by TreblaWorld Inc ( a reliable and discreet Company) A political delegation is out here checking out Westech currently. |

Hi Alchemist,
Alchemist remarked: "Is it because people are dying of starvation or is there severe drought there?" Btw, generally, in African countries, the latter leads to the former. Drought causes loss of crops and starvation. So, it's not really an "either/or" choice. But yes, mojojojo is currently "Out Of Africa". I am currently travelling to various countries to sample their wine and women (women: before I got engaged). Occassionally, I am asked to display my skills with their spear. After going *Poke! Poke!* here, and *Poke! Poke!* there, people usually applaud my performances. One of my favourite destinations is Singapore. There are several reasons for this: 1. The Singapore tax rate is more favourable to a non-resident like me because the ERC has lowered the non-resident tax rate to 22%. In Timbuktu, every year, I have to pay 30% income tax, plus 4 chickens, 6 cows, 3 ducks, 1 elephant and 7 zebra. Every year, I have to break my back running after the zebra just to catch enough to pay taxes. 2. I have fallen in love with a beautiful Singaporean girl. And she wants to stay in Singapore. Now, who am I to argue with a Singaporean girl? 3. Singaporeans envy everything that is non-Singapore. When was the last time that you heard a Singaporean say... A. "I love my blue jeans because it is functional." Now, in Singapore, these Singaporeans want designer jeans. Aiyah, their designer jeans, like the "Bare Distress" in the Straits Times, it looks just like the jeans we have here in Timbuktu. We all poor people mah, no chance to replace jeans often. So, often it gets ripped and shredded. Not only that, last time, a Man from Levi's came to Timbuktu and started buying up all the used+dirty jeans in Timbuktu. He took it to Singapore, marked it up, and sold it for more than new jeans... cool Singaporean kids bought it since it's "Cool stuff since it's been worn before". You give them pocket money for that? B. "I love my HDB flat queue system because it is systematic." Do you know that in Timbuktu, we have to build our own huts? Man, you guys have it easy. All you have to do is queue. And in Timbuktu, huts are so fragile and precious. And in Singapore, you got picky people like that so-called-cosmopolitan Singaporean who passed up *700 HDB flats* just because he wanted one on a higher floor. Many Singaporeans envy the no-queue property system elsewhere. So, I thought I would come to Singapore, and introduce the Build-Your-Own-HDB-Flat system to replace the Build-To-Order system or the RFS system. No fees, no queue. We assign you a plot of land, and you can build to your heart's content. C. "I think my public transport system is good". Complain, complain, complain - No MRT serving my area, taxi fare so high, got to walk here and there... In Timbuktu, every day, I have to walk 50 miles just to buy my national newspaper. By the time, I get back home, the day gone already... Not only that, Singaporeans in MRT station tend to be colour-blind. They don't notice the lines painted in the floor to ask them to stand aside from the MRT door and not rush in. In Timbuktu, we practice standing aside all the time. We don't want to get trampled by a herd of Rhinos. When I come to Singapore, I will introduce the sound of a stampede of Rhinos and Elephants before the door opens. Then, that will shock the Singaporeans standing in front of the MRT door to move aside. So, that's why I spend quite a bit of time in Singapore. As a non-Singaporean, I am so touched by the outpouring of love by Singaporeans. When other stock exchanges refuse to list a Timbuktu company, we know we can count on the SGX to take us in. It's easier for us to prepare the company for listing too. We don't have to worry about profits, or sales, or costs, or a track record. All we need to do is make sure we have a small float and a sexy name. Something like "Sure-Go-Up Incorporated". Or "Easy-To-Corner Limited". |

This reminds me of a story...
Once upon a time in a village in northeast China... There was a family who lived frugally in the outskirts of the village. The father, mother, son and daughter toiled the land diligently building up their wealth. One day, a dirty-looking man came to the house. The family asked him why he was there. Through his stuttering inarticulateness, the man said he had been working on a "cold box". The family laughed. They declined to invest since they thought he was a silly inventor who couldn't convey his ideas well. The next day, a smart-looking man in an official-looking uniform appeared. The family asked him why he was there. He said that he had come to enforce the government's decree that the family was to be moved to Beijing and accorded the highest honour for their hard work. The family was delighted. All the years of hard work had paid off. As they packed, the man turned to them and said that they needed to convert their wealth to gold bars so that they can carry it to Beijing. The family gave him their wealth to convert to gold bars at gold merchant in town. As sundown came, and the smart-looking man didn't return, the family realize too late that they had been cheated. Moral of the story? Con-artists and bull-sh*tters can speak very well. They can speak just as well as the wisest of us. If you ask those victims in cheating cases that appear in the press, you will often find that they were seduced by sweet words. Sometimes the honest have a difficulty embellishing the truth. They don't tell us what they think we want to hear... but they tell us what they believe in. My brother and I are total opposites (in many ways). I love my brother very much. And a lot of people have asked why we ended up taking separate routes in life, why we are at times so different (extrovert/introvert polarization). While I will admit he's the quiet type, he's a honest, diligent, genius. (PhD from one of the world's top universities before he's even 25, and with a scholarship...). When you live with someone who doesn't fit the "smooth-talking, suave" mold, and you see how wonderfully competent and honest they are, you have a deeper appreciation for the fact that God placed talent in a variety of people, and He was blind to how well they spoke. P.S. The dirty old man with the "cold box"? He went on to invent the refrigerator. P.P.S. Wantwant, I would agree with you that people are biased towards those who speak and write better, much as I believe it shouldn't be so. |
