FM,

I am toying with that idea seriously. Oldman archives most of the postings here, so it may turn out to be rich vein of information for me to do my thesis.

By the way, I need to ask you for your opinion in a question which has stumped me. I was asked to select 1 stock from a basket of 3 to buy (MBA question). The metrics given to me was:

1. Dividend payout ratio
2. EPS (for the last 3 years)
3. Beta
4. Long-term growth rate
5. Risk Free Rate
6. Market price

The idea of choosing stocks should be based on the premise of selecting the most undervalued stock. And the value of an undervalued stock should be based on the expectations of future capital or dividend payout growth.

So, in this instance, do I just use Gordon's Growth Model or CAPM to calculate the expected share price and compare, vis-a-vis, with the existing market price?

Thanks!

Of course profit-taking is to be expected after many days of run-up.

But the uptrend is intact and new players will come in to take over, while the others rotate to other counters lah

Hello Spurs,

The Gordon Growth model will be more appropriate as such valuation methods consider Dividend payout ratio, EPS and long term growth rate. The expected returns also factor in beta and Risk free rate.

There are too many assumptions underlying CAPM and such leakages may give rise to high statistical errors in determine fair values.

However, theorethical fair value and market price is best not to conclude base on 1 valuation method. Perhaps your conclusion should be derived from the direct comparison of 2 models and argue based on the level of errors

At 12.53PM I warned - but few heeded my call and got burnt. Market will trend lower for a week now in my opinion and many will cut loss as their profits becomes losses and others will be forced sold in T +2 - SEE MY EARLIER COMMENT BELOW...

Friedman is correct I am afraid - if the "STI fails to stand on 1633 on the 5th attempts today" then will be a major correction and in turn many will be caught unable to pick up - the days of forced selling may then return. It may seem an unrealistically negative prediction but my advice is to sell into strength and stay out. Let the rest then do the panicing for you as the market is rather over-extended. You may be able to buy back most shares much cheaper next week. Let's see.

The morning STI at 1612, - 3pts, is in a precarious stage and is quite overbgt with the RSI and MACD showing signs of weakness.

If breaks below 1600 may consolidate around 1550-1580. The 1st half reporting season is mostly out and nothing new to excite for the time being. Those over kungho may have to pay the price for over exhuberance, esp with 1 to 5 cents par new ipo infants. Furthermore, the penny stocks have overshot decent valuation.

Recently there are courses leading to .. now hear this..

BLACK BELT ON QUALITY.. dont ask me dont know anything about this..
ASK MOTOROLA IF U WANT TO KNOW MORE.
