Why so quarrelsome? Anybody can speculate, just like a soccer match, or the closing STI tomorrow. Zombie hasn't done anything deplorable, as far as I'm concerned. He didn't represent that what he said is a fact. A "take" is just a "take". His "take".

Take it easy lah.

Skyfox,

Relax lah, everyone loses money today, not only you. It depends on how much you lose and how fast you cut loss, which is to say, how greedy you are, the more greedy you are, the more you lose. So, blame yourself on your greed, don't blame others.

Natural for mkt to drop to this stage.
STI has been climbing up for quite some time already.
It makes sense that FM and other BIG BROTHERS to take immediate profits.

Government definitely can contain SARS, this drop in STI gives FM and BIG FISH an excuse to take profit 1st before doing shopping again.

Looks like this week is a great BUYING WEEK.
Be steady!

The rest then is up to the SARS measures and system in place, and whether this really is an isolated case or more victims emerge

Hi nojoke!
the oni reason everybody panic just now is bcos of the resurface of SARS. if mr market wants to consolidate, he can slowly consolidate but cannot drop 20-30 points in the last 1/2 hour without any particular reason..
those contra early in the morning... wish u all the best..
another way to get out is to go in again between 4.30-5.00pm just now. 2molo may rebound a bit....

Are you happy when the market sees blood everywhere? If you do, it means you have not overstreched yourself, or are not too greedy.

Sadly many probably cannot boast of that.

Not only one should buy as much as he can hold, he should also have spare fund for bloody moments like this. If you do, this is the day for you.

First SARS case in Singapore since May 31

The Health Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that a Singaporean man had contracted SARS.

It is the first SARS case in Singapore since the World Health Organisation declared the country SARS-free on May 31 and globally on July 5.

Acting Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said it appeared to be a single, isolated case and Singaporeans should carry on with life as usual.

The patient had not been overseas, and investigations are on-going to determine the source of the infection.

The 27-year-old patient tested positive for the virus twice.

He is a post-doctoral student, who was doing research on the West Nile virus.

It is still not clear how he contracted SARS.

The Health Ministry said the patient first showed symptoms of fever on August 26 midnight, and he went to consult his General Practitioner the next day.

On August 29, he went to the A&E at the Singapore General Hospital and was diagnosed with viral fever.

When his condition did not get better, he sought medical treatment with a Chinese physician on September 1.

He went back to the A&E at SGH two days later where he was warded.

Acting Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the risk to public health was low because the case was detected early and isolated.

Contact tracing has been conducted and the patient's contacts have been tracked down and they are all well.

But as a precaution, 25 of the patient's contacts have been served with Home Quarantine Orders.

SGH, where the case surfaced, has been put on Orange Alert, and some restrictions have been put in place.

SARS - WHO says tests being conducted outside Singapore on suspected case

09/09/2003 19:14

GENEVA (AFX-ASIA) - Further laboratory tests were being carried out outside Singapore today to try to confirm irrefutably if a man being treated in isolation in the Asian state is suffering from SARS, the World Health Organization said.

WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said the 27-year-old medical student from Singapore had suffered a high fever, but did not match the full case definition of the pneumonia-like disease.

"X-rays did not show up atypical pneumonia, but other tests showed it could be SARS. These are conflicting results," Chaib told journalists.

"We are awaiting confirmation from this laboratory outside Singapore," she added.

The patient's fever has dropped, while his relatives had all been traced and show no sign of the potentially deadly new infection, Chaib said.

Singapore health officials announced Tuesday that laboratory tests showed he was a confirmed SARS case.

Just curious. Is there anyone out there who feels that this case is overrated? I think the massive drop just does not justify the situation.
First the government has proven to the world that it is one of the best countries that reacts quickly and effectively to the previous SARS outbreak.
Now this world first-class economy dropped 2% because of ONE case, who was detected very early, who has been completely isolated, and whose contacts have also been quarantined by the government who has successfully handled thousands of suspect-case before.

I dont know about you guys, but for me, tomorrow is payback day!!

Personally I do not think that the drop is too far over done. SARS is a very serious issue. The situation is still very unclear. Yes it is only one case, but from where did this case come.
I think it is the uncertainty of the situation that has caused a lot of people to sell off.
Could be more selling to come, maybe a round of forced selling tommorow.

Hi Physicon...in partial agreement with you. SARS is serious. Have to wait till those in contact with SARS case comes off clean....hence 10 days or so.

Cud be another one or two more weeks b4 this cluster is given ALL CLEAR signal.....but should be contained within this. Hence think that selling will be muted and occur over a week or so followed by rebound and recovery.

Physicon yes I thought so too. ("Yes it is only one case, but from where did this case come. ")
The only explanation I can think of is, since the symptoms were undetected, maybe its a little different i.e. new mutated SARS virus. If thats the case...

hi guys, i am watching the press conference now; i do not understand why we have to call it a SARS case when it does not meet WHO's definition, as the minister agrees. it would look stupid when who comes back and says it is not a case.

the only reason i get from what the minister says is that he wants to call it a SARS case b4cos he wants everyone to be serious and to show the world that Spore has a system even to detect a single case, not a cluster. the reply on why it is called a SARS is entirely not convincing, and very subjective!
