Heard the news tonight. Singapore is too small to have 2 broadcasting stations. May not want to encourage competition between 2 stations. Not enough advertising $ to share between the two. So looks like SPH may have to give up their station. Good news or bad news for SPH, you decide. May be good, one less loss making unit will improve overall profitability.

Bad news for PAP: The ruling party have been revealing the weakness/unsoundness of their judgements recently - from the CPF cuts to the NEL to the TV stations. How is one to believe them on major policy decisions when they yoyo so often? Trust is earned, not demanded. How robust are their arguments when pushing for agenda - I suggest all Singaporeans be more critical (the recent EZLink issue being a good start).

The market isn't moving up not only cause by the shortist
I guess the singapore market is too saturated at the moment
But the uptrend still possible Most probably the STI will be around 1720-1740 for today ..... Once there is a spark in the market Don't miss the ride hahahaha

Tommorrow is Fri. Those who short yesterday would have to cover their backside by today / tomorrow to avoid any loss. Some could have done it yesterday afternoon.

Regional indices are not so strong. Beware.

Dongbin,

Please enlighten.

What makes you think that today's rebound is a short one?

Do you mean that correction isn't over yet?

hi allow me to give me some personal views on why rebound might be shortlived...

1. the market has aredi risen 600 pts this year. from 1200 to 1800.
2. while the economy is slowly recovering, much of the good news is aredi factored in.
3. investors are unwilling to take new positions bcoz the gains are not very much higher than the risk at this point.
4. many investors who since taken positions in the first half of the year is likely to take profit seeing that 1800 may not be broken anytime soon.
5. looking at historical data of last few mths market is rangebound btwn 1700 to 1800

BULL MARKET'S PEAK COULD BE IN SIGHT
Predicting the length and return potential of bull markets is an inexact science. But a sutdy of past bull markets revels that most stock booms do not last as long or produce the type of outsized gains that investors might think......If you exclude statistical distortions caused by these megabulls in the poast 70 years, the median bull market (1/2 are shorter and 1/2 are longer) has lasted only 2 1/2 years, InvesTech says......The bad news: the second year of a bull tends to be less profitable than the first year, when stocks typically shoot sharply higher after sinking to bear-market lows......While historical patterns provide useful clues, they should not be viewed as the sole factor when making investment decision. You need more information, so says first albany chief investment officer. "are the stocks behaving like its's a bull or bear? Is the outlook for the economy and earnings still positive?.........If this bull market turns out to be a short-term rise in a longer term bear market... often called a "cyclical" bull market - history says time might be running out on the current uptrend. ned davis found that the 17 cyclical bull markets since 1900 have lasted 371 days. The current bull market is already 394 days old...New York USA Today ...Straits Time (pgA12)

here's a neat quote from BT this morning

'It's all a game of cat and mouse between shortists and buyers, and nothing to do with fundamentals,' said one broker. 'Sentiment rules at the moment.'
