A pity Singapore bourse is close today... Have not seen such a strong and sustained session for the DOW for a long long time. One more good close at US... And our market will take a big leap to play catch up on wednesday... this wave I believe could bring the index up to 1730. Thanksgiving for US on Thursday means that there will be one less uncertainty towards the march past 1700. Hold on tight...

That said, another terrorist strike at a significant spot can well turn everything red. But then again... even Osama needs to celebrate Hari Raya yah...?

Those who sold off in panic when the syndicates temporarily depressed the prices here are really, really... toopid

Stocks power up again

How many times have we seen newbie punters buy in bulk euphorically after seeing the market rise, then rush to panic sell - no thanks to our mercenary kateks - only to see very counters surge to new highs after selling?

Tuesday 25 Nov 03

Tokyo's benchmark stock index rallied past the 10,000 level Tuesday morning, buoyed by strength on Wall Street and a weaker yen.

Looking forward to Wednesday. hehehehe

Hi folks

Need a little help. What are the new rules regarding audit requirements of accounts for small companies? Where can I find some information?

Thanks.

Found the answer (in amendments to Companies Act)

* less than $2.5m revenue
* less than 20 shareholders (and no corp shareholder)

Section 205B – Dormant companies exempt from audit requirements
Section 205C – Exempt private company exempt from audit requirements

With effect from 15 May 2003, dormant companies and exempt private companies with revenues not exceeding $2.5m would be exempted from the audit requirement.

However, Section 205B(6) & Section 205C(3) stipulates that any member or members holding in the aggregate not less than 5% in nominal value of a company’s issued share capital or any class of it or, if the company does not have a share capital, not less than 5% in number of the members of the company may request for an audit of the company accounts.

Act itself

Exempt private company exempt from audit requirements

205C. —(1) An exempt private company shall be exempt from audit requirements in respect of a financial year if its revenue in that year does not exceed the prescribed amount.

(2) For a period which is an exempt private company’s financial year but is less than 12 calendar months, the prescribed amount shall be proportionately adjusted.

(3) Section 205B (4), (6) and (7) shall apply, with the necessary modifications, to an exempt private company so exempt.

(4) In this section —

"prescribed amount" means the amount prescribed by the Minister for the purposes of this section;

"revenue" has the meaning given to that word in the Accounting Standards, subject to such modifications as the Minister may prescribe.

From 1650 to 1610, if it happens at all.....40pts or 2.4%. FMs locked in profits. Selling may be abating. We might juz see the capricornian effect as FMs reposition for 2004 if valuations are attractive. Now to mid-Dec might be a good time to keep a close watch. STI now at 1690.

0818 [Dow Jones] With GDP growth solid in Asia, earnings revisions going up, question is if there's enough liquidity, says Citigroup; its view is Asian stocks not in trouble, for 4 reasons: Slowing U.S. money growth likely short-lived, Fed's easing stance still unequivocal, U.S. free liquidity has long lead over Asia stocks, Asian free liquidity rising. Country liquidity scorecards supportive in most places. Sticks to view Asia stocks have 15-20% upside; "the last phase of reflation rallies is usually very strong even if some indicators look toppish."(RXM)

stupid danger of new SARS case always there...hope nothing serious and false alarm...else will affect sentiment..so trade with cautious and buy only have holding power

[Dow Jones] Cool weather likely to bring with it spate of SARS scares, with Japanese man who flew in from mainland China now hospitalized with fever, being tested for SARS, among other things; have been recent false alarms, no new SARS cases since Asia outbreak brought under control earlier in year. Markets unlikely to react unless a case is actually confirmed, plus most countries better prepared to handle any new outbreak.(RXM)

Mkt scared to hurdle above 1702. Perhaps gotta wait for US mkts tonight as there are so many figs. But with strong buying of blue chips stocks in our mkt, its a sign that funds are coming in or short covering (esp. DBS). If they continue this, small caps will also cheong. Recent falls have flushed out lots of weak bulls.

my turn to smoke out ... not a guru not one abou to self proclaim hahah

ok buy some today about 50-60% of cash and then wait lor
if tonight drop fine buy tomorrow avg down if tonight up laggi good wait for initial panik cover then when ease a little buy a little more avg up??

Expect positive closing tomorrow and then some profit taking on friday before US open. if US remains positive we continue to be bouyant next week but not for long so best to accumulate little this round for a short play into next week, selling little by little in each push. Rebound abit too soon?? probably a technical rebound after all the selling so we have a relief rally?? therefore it maybe capped at 1750?? if pushed thru don't sell lor if touch and starts to fall sell into weakness lor ....

And then stay out until after x-mas or new yr, now probably funds doing some switching into safer less volatile bluechip stocks locking in profit and safeguarding their gains and exposure for yr end bonuses

So how's my take?? got kangtang or not??

It does not really matters if the index is up or down. The blue chips up is quite artificial and would not last anyway. It is more important for stocks to move up broadbased wise.
If the commoner is rich and the country is rich very good but if the commoner is poor the country rich it would not be too good.
